Jasmine Paolini bids farewell to Paris: the Azzurra, who had decided to forgo doubles to concentrate on singles, was defeated in the second round by Argentine Solana Sierra, number 68 WTA, at the end of a match that seemed practically won halfway through the second set. In the second hour of play, however, her opponent rose in level and managed to make a comeback, seizing a result predicted by very few on the eve.

6-3, 4-6, 3-6 the partials of a match that lasted two hours and eleven minutes.Paolini, after a first set conducted with authority, also found a break lead in the second fraction, holding it until 4-2. From there on, however, the darkness: first a partial four games to zero for Sierra, who thus evened the set count, then a third fraction that started badly (immediately three games lost) and thus became irretrievable.

So the difficult moment continues for the champion from Bagni di Lucca, who in 2024 had been a finalist (only the unbeatable Iga Swiatek defeated her on that occasion) and in 2025 reached the round of 16, defeated by Elina Svitolina. At the Slam level, Paolini has not been able since then to get past the third round, an achievement captured at the US Open 2025 and the Australian Open 2026.

Paolini had also surrendered at the second hurdle in Rome (on that occasion it was the third round), overcome by Elise Mertens also in that case in a comeback, and before that in Madrid, beaten by Hailey Baptiste by two sets to zero. The difficult moment had already been certified by her exit from the Top 10: with the second-round knockout at Roland Garros, her presence among the top fifteen is now also at risk.
