Psg, one dead after Champions League victory celebration

In Paris, celebrations for Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory were marked by serious riots. According to the prefecture, 283 people were arrested amid the clashes near the Parc des Princes and other areas of the capital, where some 20,000 fans had gathered on the Champs-Élysées to celebrate the team’s success.
The balance sheet for the night is heavy: one person lost his life and 219 were injured, eight of them in serious condition. The victim, a motorcyclist, reportedly died after crashing into some concrete blocks on an exit ramp of the Périphérique, at Porte Maillot, not far from the PSG stadium.
Nationally, there were 426 people detained. Law enforcement officials also seized about a hundred fireworks mortars. In the Porte de Saint-Cloud area, where a big screen had been set up to watch the Budapest final against Arsenal, several stores were looted and six vehicles damaged. One police officer was injured, while several fire trucks were damaged after being stormed by groups of ultras.
Tense moments were also recorded on the Périphérique, which was temporarily blocked by the invasion of some fans. In the 8th arrondissement, groups of people attacked a police station, later being dispersed by police intervention. The prefecture also reported the stabbing of a person in the Barbès district and the falling into the Seine of a man in an intoxicated state.
The Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez, has been constantly monitoring the development of the situation together with the prefect and security officials. To ensure public order, 22,000 police and gendarmes had been deployed throughout France, including 8,000 in the capital alone.
