Moto3, scare at Balaton Park: Muñoz hit after crash, race closed early

Acts of great fear in the Moto3 Hungarian Grand Prix: in fact, the race was closed permanently early due to the red flag shown on the last lap after a nasty accident involving multiple riders in the fight for the podium. On the straight preceding Turn 12, in fact, a carambola knocked out David Muñoz, Valentin Perrone and Brian Uriarte, leaving the paddock with bated breath for a few seconds.
It all started when Muñoz’s bike, who was defending third place, touched Alvaro Carpe’s: the former was thrown from the bike and, falling into the trajectory, was hit by Perrone and Uriarte, both unable to avoid him. Images immediately led to fears of the worst, but early updates have fortunately confirmed that all the riders involved, Muñoz first and foremost, were conscious when help arrived.
The race direction immediately showed the red flag, stopping the race and freezing the rankings at the passage of the previous lap, as required by the rules. It was an inevitable decision given the dynamics of the accident and the need to clear the track quickly to allow the intervention of medical vehicles.
As for the sports report, the official result rewards Maximo Quiles. The world leader, who had built a safety margin of more than three seconds before the red flag, thus took his fifth victory of the season, stretching further in the standings. Behind him finished David Almansa, while Carpe was classified third thanks.
Uriarte, who had managed to get back on the saddle after the crash, was classified fourth, while Perrone and Muñoz, who were left on the ground after the crash, were not re-included in the final ranking. The rest of the Top 10 saw Rico Salmela in fifth, followed by Adrian Cruces, Marco Morelli, Jesus Rios, Casey O’Gorman and Adrian Fernandez.
