Divock Origi is leaving playing soccer at the age of 31. The Belgian striker, who endured four nightmarish seasons at AC Milan, has decided to hang up his cleats and announced it via an official statement posted on his social profiles.

“I fulfilled my childhood dreams playing on the biggest stages and winning the most important trophies. To all the clubs, coaches and teammates who have stood by me, I say thank you. You have shaped me in ways that go far beyond the field. The mission is complete, now I move on to the next one.”

Growing up in Lille, where he made his professional debut, Origi joined Liverpool in 2015. He stayed with the Reds for seven seasons, with the parenthesis of a one-year loan at Wolfsburg, winning as a star player a Champions League in 2019, as well as the Premier League, FA Cup, English League Cup, Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup, for a total of 41 goals in 175 games.

In 2022 began the unhappy experience at AC Milan, interspersed with the equally bad loan at Nottingham Forest. For the past two years Origi had been attached to the Milan Futuro squad, without ever taking the field. He had been released last December by the Diavolo. He played 32 games with Belgium, participating in the 2014 World Cup.
