Andrea De Nicolao Leaves Cantù; A New Adventure Awaits

“Acqua S.Bernardo Pallacanestro Cantù bids farewell to and thanks Andrea De Nicolao, an exemplary professional who has shown great dedication to the team during his two seasons in Cantù. With his experience and leadership, De Nicolao made a decisive contribution to the team’s successes during the 2024–25 season and served as a key pillar during the season that just ended, playing a vital role in helping the team avoid relegation.” In a statement, the Brianza-based club confirmed its parting ways with the veteran point guard from Veneto. “The club extends its heartfelt thanks to Andrea and best wishes for the rest of his career, which is already rich in satisfaction and success,” the Biancoblù front office added.
De Nicolao’s contribution during the season just concluded was also reflected in the statistics: the point guard, born in 1991, finished the Serie A season averaging 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in about 17 minutes of playing time per game, proving himself to be a quality and reliable player on Coach Walter De Raffaele’s roster. His performance was especially valuable during the season’s most critical moments, as evidenced by his tenacity during the intense weeks of the relegation battle, when he declared with determination that the team would face the decisive matchups “with a knife between their teeth.”
De Nicolao’s connection with Cantù, however, goes far beyond this past season. In the 2024–25 season, the Venetian point guard was one of the key players in the run that brought the Brianza-based club back to Serie A, also winning the A2 Italian Cup. “It was an incredibly tough season—there were ups and downs, injuries—we went through it all. Despite that, we made it, and we deserve it. “Everything changed starting in January; we played exceptionally well,” De Nicolao commented immediately after that achievement, revealing his pride in a goal reached through great effort and character.
As for the future, the transfer market surrounding De Nicolao appears lively. According to reports, the most concrete lead points to Dinamo Sassari, which would like to give him a key role on the perimeter to round out its roster with an experienced player capable of bringing order to the team. However, this isn’t the only option on the table: Verona, a club where De Nicolao previously played during the 2014–2015 season, has also expressed interest, while Varese is monitoring the situation without having made a move yet. The veteran point guard from Veneto is taking the time he needs to carefully evaluate the best choice for the next phase of his career. Keep an eye on the newly promoted Scaligera as well.
