Casarin: The National Team Comes First, but the Transfer Market Calls—the Italian basketball player takes stock of his future

Davide Casarin puts the Azzurri above all else, but his name continues to be heavily mentioned in transfer rumors. From the national team’s training camp, the former Reyer Venezia wing—who played for Vanoli Cremona last season—has reiterated his desire to remain fully focused on the World Cup qualifiers: “I’m here in Rome with the national team, and I want to stay focused on that,” he told *Corriere dello Sport*.
In the background, however, it’s impossible not to discuss the next destination for the 2003-born player, who had already been linked to Virtus Bologna in recent weeks. “It’s one of the possible options,” the young basketball player admitted. “But right now I’m here in Rome with the national team, and I don’t want to think about anything else. We have two qualifying games ahead of us, and we’re only at the beginning of training camp.”
Born in Mestre on May 22, 2003, the son of former basketball player Federico (now president of Reyer Venezia), Davide Casarin grew up in the Reyer Venezia system, coming up through the youth ranks and remaining under contract until 2025, with a couple of loan stints in Treviso (2021–2022) and Verona (2022–2023). In 2025, he moved to Vanoli Cremona: Casarin was one of the last players to wear the blue-and-white jersey, following the transfer of the team’s sports rights to the organization that is establishing a new basketball club in Rome.
Casarin has been called up for the Italian national basketball team’s extended summer training camp. The team will play against Iceland on July 2 in Reykjavik (at 9:45 p.m. Italian time) and against Lithuania on July 5 at the Virtus Arena in Bologna (at 8:00 p.m.). The schedule also includes two friendly matches: June 24 in Gorizia against Croatia and June 27 in Celje against Slovenia. With Luca Banchi absent for family reasons, the Italian national team will be led from the bench by Marco Ramondino.
