Wimbledon: Jasmine Paolini’s Dream Is Over

Jasmine Paolini’s run at Wimbledon came to an end in the quarterfinals. The Italian was defeated by Marta Kostyuk with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Paolini started the first set well, holding her serve confidently and immediately showing aggression and solidity, but the match remained even until 2-2, with both players doing a good job of defending their service games.
Then it was the Ukrainian who shifted gears. Kostyuk broke serve in the fifth game after a long tiebreak and held serve in the next game. Paolini responded with grit, saving two break points in the seventh game, but she lost her serve again in the ninth, and the first set ended 6-3 in favor of the Ukrainian player.
In the second set, Kostyuk maintained control of the match, immediately breaking serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Paolini tried to stay in the match by raising her level of play, even managing to hold serve convincingly and putting her opponent under pressure in the following games. The Ukrainian, however, remained composed in the decisive moments, thwarting the opportunities created by the Italian and maintaining her lead thanks to a consistently effective serve.
In the closing stages, Kostyuk left no room for a comeback. After saving her serve in a tricky situation in the seventh game, she sealed the deal in the very next game, winning the second set 6-2 and securing her spot in the semifinals. For Paolini, the tournament thus ends in the quarterfinals, following a match in which the Ukrainian’s aggression and consistency made the difference on the most important points.
