Carlos Alcaraz: Jannik Sinner’s rival’s return to the court is delayed

Carlos Alcaraz’s return to the tour has been postponed. The Murcia native played his last match in mid-April, when he defeated Finland’s Virtanen in Barcelona, but immediately afterward he was sidelined due to his well-known wrist problems. Since then, the Spaniard has missed the Italian Open in Rome, the French Open, and the entire grass-court season—including Wimbledon—in the hope of recovering from his injury and returning for the U.S. tour.
In recent days, the Spaniard has posted several videos of his training sessions: the issue has now been resolved, but Alcaraz will not be on the court at the Montreal Masters 1000, scheduled for early August. In fact, his name is not on the entry list for the Canadian tournament.
The former world No. 1’s goal is to return in top form for the U.S. Open, and he will most likely make his comeback at the next event, the Cincinnati Masters 1000, which serves as a warm-up for the U.S. Open set to begin in late August. After what happened, Alcaraz doesn’t want to take any risks and has decided to take every precaution before returning to the court, paying close attention to every detail. The Spaniard will be overtaken by Alexander Zverev as the world No. 2 at the end of the Wimbledon tournament.
At Wimbledon 2026, Sinner reached the semifinals, where he will face Novak Djokovic on Friday in what promises to be the highlight match of the entire tournament. In the other semifinal, Alexander Zverev will take the court against the tournament’s surprise contender, Arthur Fery, a British wild card who eliminated Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinals.
