Milan Transfer Market: Who Is Diego Moreira? All the Stats on the Rossoneri’s Surprise Signing

Barring any major last-minute surprises, the deal that will bring Diego Moreira to Milan is expected to be a brief one, conducted almost entirely out of the spotlight: according to Sky Sport, the left-back, born in 2004, a Belgian international of Portuguese origin, will join the Rossoneri in Milan in exchange for 45 million plus bonuses and a percentage of any future resale to Strasbourg, the club where he has spent the last two seasons establishing himself in Ligue 1.
Born in Liège and having turned 22 on August 6, Moreira also played for Portugal’s youth national teams from the Under-16 to the Under-21 levels before opting to represent the country where he was born. The winger could also have played for Guinea-Bissau—whose jersey was worn by his father, Almami Moreira—and for Austria, as he is the maternal grandson of former Austrian soccer player Helmut Graf.
His career began at Standard Liège, a club with which he had a tumultuous departure in 2019, before joining Benfica after a very brief stint at Lierse during which he did not play in any official matches. He spent two seasons with the Eagles of Lisbon, playing most of the time for the B team in the Segunda Liga; his performances then caught the attention of Chelsea, which signed him in August 2023 and immediately loaned him to Lyon.
After returning to the Blues in the summer of 2024, he was sold outright to Strasbourg, where he played 76 matches over two years across the league, the Coupe de France, and the Conference League, scoring 7 goals. He stood out for his ability to play on both flanks and for his attacking instincts, demonstrated not only by his goals but also by his strong contribution in creating assists.
With the Belgian national team, he has made four appearances: two in World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein (first away and then at home), one in a friendly against Tunisia, and one at the World Cup against Senegal. He came on as a substitute in all of these matches; against Senegal, he also played in extra time.
