In the course of an interview granted to the ‘Messaggero’ Valerio Bianchini also commented on rumors regarding the future of basketball in Trieste with a view to a transfer of the sports title to Rome.

“It would be terrible – said the ‘Vate’ – modern basketball has its roots a long time ago, when at the time of the exodus Bogoncelli brought Cesare Rubini from Trieste and helped make Milan great, first with the Borletti brand and then Simmenthal. Not to mention that the people of Trieste were also wronged in the Stefanel era.”

“We are talking about a historic square, which has passion and almost 5,000 subscribers. Unfortunately, I don’t think Matiasic will retrace his steps, I just hope that Trieste can still have a team in A or A2.”

Bianchini is one of the most successful coaches in Italian basketball, famous for being the first to win three championships with three different teams (Cantù 1981, Rome 1983, Pesaro 1988). His prestigious palmarès also includes 2 Champions Cups, one won with the Brianzoli and one with the Capitolini, 1 Cup Winners’ Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 Coppa Italia.
