At the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, the Mapei Research Center’s 30th anniversary conference is staged: it is a journey through the research center’s sports experiences between past, present and future. Among the guests in attendance was Nadia Battocletti: “I took my first steps at Mapei and thus entered the world of professional athletics for the first time. I discovered stubbornness and determination, but most of all that with hard work and the right tools you can achieve important goals.”

“Athletics, in my case, is a sport in which you know that the first three places have already gone to another continent, so it’s never easy,” added the Azzurra middle distance runner; knowing already at the starting line that you’re going to lose is quite useless and at the same time demoralizing, but I arrive at the finish line knowing that I’ve made sacrifices and that with me is my family, friends and staff.

“Above all, I realize how important the path is,” the silver medalist in the 10000 meters flat at the Paris 2024 Olympics went on to explain, “and it doesn’t matter to me that as my opponent there is a double Olympic champion or a high-flyer who has endless world records, what is important is what happens afterwards.”

She concludes on dad Giuliano, who is also her coach: “Working with dad is an honor and it’s very nice because I approach it with a person who knows how I am. It is not always easy to live it both as a father and as a coach, but my dad is my ‘Google’ because he knows everything. I like to watch athletics with him because he takes everything perfectly.”

“Coaching Nadia is easy, she does everything I propose to her-the words of dad Giuliano. We always make technical comparisons about what she wants to do. I generally don’t overdo indoor, as I find them quite traumatic. So I asked Nadia if she wanted to do them and she said yes, otherwise we would not have done them. She became world champion in the first shot, though.”
