Italy flop, Gabriele Gravina ready to do what it takes "for the good of Italian football"

At the end of the nefarious evening in Zenica, Gabriele Gravina entrenched himself behind the rules, postponing any decision about his future at the Federal Council meeting. No resignation but the iron will to disquisition of what is best for Italian soccer with a “cold mind,” in front of his collaborators and those who have always supported him since he became the number 1 of Italian soccer in 2018.

“There are several evaluations to make. The technical part I safeguard it 100 percent. The political part, on the other hand, concerns the Federal Council that I have convened for next week. We will make evaluations internally. I understand the call for resignation. I am used to this exercise, but the evaluations are rightfully up to the Federal Council as provided by the rules,” his words, hot on the heels of the elimination with Bosnia.

Today is scheduled for the FIGC Federal Council where, finally, important decisions will be made. After the lunge of Sports Minister Andrea Abodi, Gabriele Gravina is with his back to the wall and, according to several rumors, has already decided his future. Barring unforeseen events, his resignation as president of the FIGC is expected, so as to avoid any commissioning by the Coni.

Gabriele Gravina should therefore leave the chair to someone else, who will then be called upon to revive the blue soccer system. Among the hottest names is certainly that of Giovanni Malagò, a person who seems to put all parties in agreement. There would be no shortage of alternatives. From Giancarlo Abete to, perhaps, some former player ready to make an important political step.
