Marcos Baghdatis makes argument over Jannik Sinner

Former tennis player Marcos Baghdatis talked about Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in an interview with Clay: the iconic Cypriot athlete, a 2006 Australian Open finalist and former world No. 8, made a comparison with tennis fifteen or twenty years ago.

“Before it was more tactical, you could play slower, focusing on the ball. Now everything is faster: one, two strokes, power. Before, the points were slower, but now the courts are slower, the balls are higher. It’s different, but everything is evolving.”

Baghdatis is confident that he would have a chance to beat Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: “When I see them, I always think about how my game could put them in trouble, what I would do in certain situations. And I think I could do it. At least virtually, I see ways to get on the court and get them in trouble, but then putting it into practice is a whole other thing.”

Baghdatis had his say about the calendar and the crowded schedule: “I think the calendar could be improved, because we see a lot of players complaining about the schedule. Maybe it would be better to have a longer break between seasons, where players can play exhibition matches, enjoy their families and have more free time for themselves.”

“I’ve played exhibition matches, and it’s not the same. It’s more relaxed, more fun, there’s no pressure to win or lose. You go and it’s like training, so it’s completely different. If the season is shorter, maybe there are no friendlies during the season, but you can play them in the off-season and use them as preparation.”
