Neven Spahija warns Virtus Bologna

Reduced by last Sunday’s defeat at Taliercio with Trento, a 106-87 that raised more than one question within the orogranata group, Reyer Venezia seeks redemption in the Easter Sunday challenge against Virtus Bologna, with the ball at 8 p.m. at Virtus Arena. For the Laggunarians, it is also an important match from the standings point of view: a victory, in fact, would bring them closer to the top of the standings with only five more games to play in the regular season.

“As usual, after such a tough defeat, there is always a need to stop and reflect and work harder,” said Neven Spahija at the presentation of Sunday’s match. “We spent more time together, even with our managers. That is the greatness of this company: whenever something unexpected happens, like a heavy defeat (because, as I said, we win and lose in here, but not all defeats are equal), we openly confront each other.”

“It was a tough defeat, we all took personal responsibility for it, accepted it and immediately went back to work, opening a new page,” added the Croatian coach. We have to try new and different things, because when you lose you have to think more. But the strength of our club is this: when faced with difficulties, as happens to every team in Europe, we react with internal confrontation. We never pass the responsibility on to the outside.”

“In other places, when things don’t go, there is a tendency to point the finger at someone, but not in this society,” Spahija further explained. “This week we have thoroughly analyzed where and why the problems emerged, focusing on the reasons for the bad performance, and we have continued to work. Now comes Bologna, a team that is currently at a high level in the Euroleague, albeit with its own problems. We know how strong they are, but we prepared the game in our own way. We have one more day of practice to figure out what we can put on the court on Sunday.”
