Milan, Massimiliano Allegri bitter: "Nice to think about the Scudetto, now eye behind"

Accordingly, Milan is no longer second in the Serie A standings, a position it ceded to Napoli after the direct clash at the Maradona Stadium. However, Massimiliano Allegri does not believe that it was this specific defeat that definitively ended the Rossoneri’s Scudetto dream, compared to other setbacks that occurred throughout the season. On the contrary: the coach from Livorno returns to focus his attention on the Champions League goal, which he does not consider as yet acquired compared to the many pursuers of fourth place.
“To think that we were fighting for the Scudetto was nice,” Allegri admitted to ‘Sky Sport’. “Of course, then if you lose at home against Parma and in Rome with Lazio at the decisive moment, there is little you can do. Then maybe we won other games where we didn’t deserve. But that’s the beauty of soccer, Milan currently has 63 points in the standings and so many we deserve. Difficult moments happen, but we have to stay calm and keep working. We have seven games left and we need to score a tot to stay in the top four.”
“Looking at the Champions League zone, we still have points to spare,” Allegri stressed. “Then it’s not a matter of worrying about Como, because there are also Atalanta and Roma. There are still many direct encounters left, and we definitely have to win at least four games. To be mathematical, we have to get to 74 points at the end of the season. And it also happens to win without strikers, but tonight against Napoli we had to understand that the game was dangerous for Milan. Well done to them for taking it to their side, now everyone back to work ahead of Saturday.”
There is one aspect in particular where, according to Allegri, Milan lacked against Napoli. “They are blocked matches. In the first half we needed more precision from a technical point of view,” acknowledged the Rossoneri coach, “instead in their half of the field we often made mistakes. On one of their restarts, however, we paid for it. Good job by them to exploit it.”
Last comment on Rafa Leao. “He hasn’t trained for 12 days. We are talking about an extraordinary guy with important qualities. Who, however, unfortunately, is back from a calf problem that kept him out for two months. To have him play for 90 minutes would have been a gamble, then the changes Milan has could be important,” Allegri cut short.
