Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz: Nick Kyrgios doesn’t rule out surprises

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have shared the last 19 tournaments they have participated in together and have no plans to stop in Monte Carlo. Nick Kyrgios, the volcanic tennis player-opinionator who has often caused controversy with his controversial statements about Azzurro, explained how this duopoly is good for tennis.
“Their dominance is good for tennis. Let’s not forget that in every era there is someone, or more than one, who dominates. Right now it is Alcaraz and Sinner. Those two will challenge each other for a long time,” explained the Australian, who, however, did not rule out possible surprises on clay.
“Every week there is someone who proves that he can beat anyone on the right day, and right now there are many who can challenge Alcaraz and Sinner,” Kyrgios pointed out. “Being consistent day after day, year after year, is the real challenge. That’s what distinguishes the best players.”
In the interview with Tennishead, Carlos Alcaraz also talked about the possible return of Serena Williams: “She is the greatest tennis player of all time. Everyone is chasing her on the WTA Tour. It would be great to see her back on the court, if only for the pleasure of watching her play. One should not underestimate what it means mentally to win 23 Slams: she has gone through all the difficulties and knows exactly what it takes to win.”
Kyrgios then pushed for a reform of the Slams, which he said could introduce the five sets only starting with the quarterfinals. “This would solve all the scheduling problems in Grand Slam tournaments, lead to more surprises, and allow fans to see more matches in a day,” argued the Australian tennis player, who did not set a specific date on his return but gave several hints.
“I am preparing for Wimbledon and will play in Stuttgart and Mallorca this June,” said Kyrgios, who played his last match on the ATP circuit last January in the Brisbane tournament.
