MotoGp, Pecco Bagnaia world champion with Ducati

Motorcycling Italy rejoices with Pecco Bagnaia, 2022 world champion of the MotoGp class. The verdict took on all the trappings of officialdom at the checkered flag of the Valencian Community Grand Prix, the last round of the MotoGP: winning the race was Alex Rins, on the Suzuki, ahead and Brad Binder (KTM) and Jorge Martin (Ducati). A ninth place finish, at the end of a conservative race, was more than enough for Bagnaia to get the better of a Fabio Quartararo (fourth at the end) who still needed a win to hope to overturn the pre-race disadvantage of 23 points.

Bagnaia and Quartararo actually dueled in the early stages of the race (characterized, moreover, by Marc Marquez’s fall), but the Ducatista preferred to avoid further risks, well aware that a fall could have put the title at serious risk. At the finish, Bagnaia arrived between two other Italian riders: Enea Bastianini (Ducati), eighth at the line, and Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha), tenth.

Pecco brings back to Italy a title in the premier class that had been missing since 2009, the year of Valentino Rossi’s last overall success. For Ducati, on the other hand, it is the second riders’ title after Casey Stoner’s in 2007. On the other hand, to find a World Championship won by an Italian on an Italian motorcycle, we have to go back to 1972, with Giacomo Agostini who won riding an MV Agusta.
