The Monte Carlo Masters 1000 gets into full swing, and among the protagonists is always Jannik Sinner, who after his easy victory against Ugo Humbert struggled a bit more to get the better of Tomas Machac in the round of 16, partly due to a slight physical fatigue, however, brilliantly overcome. His opponent in the quarterfinals will be Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, who got the pass by taking advantage of Casper Ruud’s withdrawal at 7-5, 2-2, due to the Norwegian’s injury.

The match between Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime will be the second, in order of time, among those scheduled for Friday, April 10, at Court Rainier III, the center court of the Monte Carlo Counrty Club. The start time is estimated to be around 1 p.m., give or take a minute: earlier, in fact, the first match scheduled on the same court, that between Joao Fonseca and Alexander Zverev, must conclude. The match with Sinner on the court, in any case, will not start before 12:15 p.m.

The one in Monte Carlo will be the seventh head-to-head ever between the Sesto Pusteria outfielder and the current world number 7, who has returned to the top positions after a long period of ups and downs. The balance rewards Jannik Sinner, who has won four of the previous six, while Auger-Aliassime has prevailed on two occasions. Not included in the tally is a match that was initially scheduled but then not played, due to Sinner’s forfeit due to injury, at the Madrid Masters 1000 in 2024, at the quarterfinal level.

The Canadian has won the first two direct clashes outright: 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16 in Madrid in 2022, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-1 also in 2022 in Cincinnati, again at the round of 16 level. Sinner, for his part, won his next four matches, all played in 2025: 6-0, 6-2 in the quarters in Cincinnati, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals at the U.S. Open, 6-4, 7-6(4) in the final at the Paris Masters 1000, and finally, 7-5, 6-1 in the group stage of the ATP Finals.
