Newly minted Dr. Sofia Goggia has only one regret.

Sofia Goggia graduated in Political Science from Luiss University in Rome, discussing a thesis focused on propaganda and soft power in the history of the Olympic Games, from the ancient world to the Milan Cortina 2026 edition. The skier from Bergamo revealed this on the sidelines of an event in Milan dedicated to prevention: “At the end of March I handed in my thesis. Today the commission met to assign the grade and in June there will be the graduation ceremony. Then I will celebrate,” are the words reported by Ansa.
“The work is structured in three parts. In the first, the difference between the ancient and modern Olympics is analyzed, in the second the historical evolution of the Games is traced, and in the third the role of propaganda in some particular editions, including that of Berlin 1936, is explored. In the second chapter I explained in detail the concepts of propaganda and soft power, while in the third I wanted to make a rather light conclusion about Milan Cortina 2026,” she explained, smiling at reporters who asked her for more details about the thesis’ conclusions. “Then I’ll give you the whole thesis to read,” she added jokingly.
The Milan event was also an opportunity to take stock of the season that has just ended, already looking to the future. “It was a season in some respects below expectations,” Goggia admitted. “In training I had expressed a very high level in three disciplines, but I was not always able to repeat those performances in competition. Having said that, to end the year with an Olympic bronze medal – won on a really difficult day – and with the first Super G World Cup of my career is definitely something very positive.”
“I think there are far more disappointing seasons than this one,” Sofia continued. “In the end you have to have an overall view and consider not only the single season, but the whole path and the palmarès that you have built. So, all in all, I am very happy with what I was able to achieve. It could have been better, but it could have been worse,” added the champion. “This awareness motivates me. I am a person who always strives hard: having perseverance, discipline, setting a goal and working hard to achieve it is what really matters to me.”
