Carlo Pernat: "The disease has changed my life"

MotoGP manager Carlo Pernat in an interview with Fanpage.it told how his life has changed in the last period due to pulmonary emphysema: “That emphysema has changed my life a bit: not the brain, not the head, not the will, not the ability. It is clear, though, that daily life is different. I can’t take planes, I can’t move around as much. I have a tank at home, I am obliged to keep it: before I used it, now fortunately not. The work, however, continues: I do it from home and go on as long as I have cartridges to shoot.”
“I can no longer be a ‘paddock’ manager, because that is a job that requires constant presence, but I can still stay within this world. I collaborate with Sky, GPone, Radio24…in short, there is no shortage of things to do. Of course, staying at home is not the same as living on the move. I for 46 years have never stopped. The first moments were not easy, then you also have to be aware: I lived 46 wonderful years, now I try to live 46 more in a different way, but always within my passion.”
Pernat then commented on Aprilia’s lightning start in MotoGP: “I expected a competitive Aprilia, yes. And also a growing Bezzecchi, especially mentally. But three consecutive wins at three such different circuits no, I didn’t expect that. I expected him to be there fighting with Ducati, not to win so much and so immediately. And that he would be able to downsize Ducati and Marquez.”
Marc Marquez is still not at the top: “He is not 100 percent just because of the injury suffered in Mandalika. Then Ducati seems to have taken some steps backwards. Maybe it’s also what happens to give the development of the bike to one rider? I don’t know. I wonder about that, but there is still a whole season that is ready to prove us wrong.”
