McIlroy’s'pride: "Work has paid off"

Rory McIlroy became the first golfer since Tiger Woods 24 years ago to win The Masters for two consecutive editions. The Northern Irish champion with this victory established himself as one of the greatest ever, winning his sixth Major title.
“I can’t believe I waited 17 years to get a Green Jacket, and now I’ve got two in a row,” McIlroy said in an interview with Fox Spor. I think all my perseverance in this golf tournament over the years is finally starting to pay off. It was a tough weekend. I did most of the work on Thursday and Friday, but I’m really happy that I was able to hang in there and get the job done.”
McIlroy had found himself up to a 6-shot lead, but squandered it all because of a very tricky Saturday. On Sunday he prevailed by just one stroke over world number one Scottie Scheffler.
“I’m really happy that my family was able to experience this today. Surprisingly, I had to convince them to come this year because they thought the reason for my victory last year was their absence. I’m glad I proved otherwise.”
