Carlos Alcaraz’s injury is holding sway in Spanish newspapers.

The Murcia-based tennis player has been forced to forfeit Barcelona and Madrid, and risks missing not only Rome but also Roland Garros in Paris. To Onda Cero Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s uncle, doesn’t mince words in defining the situation.

“Listening to him, it sounds like a very complicated situation. Usually, they advise against returning to competition if the injury is not completely healed, and I think that’s exactly what he’s going to do,” Nadal said.

“Nowadays, at these speeds, the ball travels so fast that it’s easy to make a sudden movement, and that’s when tendons and joints are affected.” According to Toni Nadal, Alcaraz cannot take risks: better to skip a Slam than to suffer worse consequences later.

“At his age, he should not take risks. He still has many years of his career ahead of him, and it’s much better to be cautious. It’s tough, but I think he’s wisely prioritizing his career over the desire to play right away.

“It’s a hard blow for him, because he won last year and wants to repeat, but I think it’s almost certain that he’s decided it’s better not to push himself. Alcaraz doesn’t need to force anything. Although things have not gone perfectly in the last three tournaments, the year has already been very good for him. He has already won a Grand Slam. If they say his participation is in doubt, he will not participate because at this level you have to be at the top to give your best. It’s much better not to force it.”
