Former referee Dino Tommasi will take over from Gianluca Rocchi, who self-suspended from his role as CAN head in recent days. According to reports from Ansa, which cites sources linked to the Italian Referees Association, the almost 50-year-old from Bassano del Grappa will serve on an interim basis as designator of Serie A and B match directors until the end of the season.

Born in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza) on May 6, 1976, after beginnings in the minor categories he landed in Serie C in 2003, directing 52 matches in C1 as well as a playoff final, before the category jump decided by then designator Maurizio Mattei. He made his Serie A debut in March 2008, directing Udinese-Lazio, remaining for three seasons in A and B until the 2010 staff reform.

Steadly in CAN B since then, he directed semifinals and play-off finals until his promotion to CAN A in 2013, ending the two-year period 2013-2015 with 54 total appearances in the top division. His last match in Serie A was on May 18, 2015, a 3-0 win between Fiorentina and Parma at the ‘Artemio Franchi’ stadium in Florence.

From 2015 Tommasi switched to the role of observer and the following year was appointed president of the Veneto CRA, a post he held for four consecutive terms. In 2020, moreover, then AIA president Marcello Nicchi appointed him as head of the CAI.
