Jannik Sinner should or should not play in Rome? The person concerned in a press conference after the semifinal win over Arthur Fils did not mince words: “I will see how I feel.” The Azzurro wants to arrive in a perfect psychophysical condition at Roland Garros, one of the most important goals of the season, and after the Sunshine Double in the United States, the victory in Monte Carlo and the final in Madrid he might decide to stop to recover.

But would he really give up the Internazionali d’Italia, the home tournament where everyone is waiting for him like a hero? Some fans don’t even want to think about it, some are questioning, others are urging him to skip Rome and focus only on Paris.

“Sinner is going to Rome since he will play either Friday or Saturday. He has almost 5 days to recover.”

“No, in Rome he can’t miss it.”

“I can imagine the criticism if he didn’t play in Rome ….the usual spiel about his not being Italian.”

“In Rome he will definitely be there in my opinion.”

“Number one Italian skipping Rome, it seems unreal to me.”

“In Rome he cares, if he feels good he will go. He should have skipped Madrid, but it was the only final he missed,” is the tenor of pro-International comments.

“Skip it. Target RG.”

“For me he should not go to Rome if the target is Roland garros.”

“I have been thinking and saying this for a few days. Jannik is aiming for Paris, and it also seems right to me”, “He won’t go and he does very well. Paris goal. Rome can wait,” is the opinion of those who suggest he only aim for the Slam.

“I always say that the crowd gives you an extra push. Rome will be a different story,” were Sinner’s words at the press conference.

“For my part, I’m trying to catch up a lot with overnight sleep. Last night was great for me-I slept many hours and felt very fresh this morning. I’ve been playing a lot in the last month and a half, getting very ahead in all the tournaments; that’s clearly a great sign, but at the same time you tend to be a little more tired. I also think that when you play big matches like finals or semifinals, there’s an adrenaline component that pushes me and motivates me. Between this tournament and Rome I’ll try to recover again, and we’ll see.”
