In Apu Udine’s house, people are looking to the future but with due calm, also because the championship is not over yet: the club led by president Alessandro Pedone will not make any moves until the sports director who will take the place of Andrea Gracis, whose name has also been approached by Pallacanestro Cantù, is named. Only then will decisions be made, one of which, although painful from a technical point of view, concerns Andrea Calzavara, who still has one year left on his contract with the Bianconeri.

The talent from Gallarate, who has long been one of the most touted names in the market to come, also because he is of interest to bigwigs of the caliber of Olimpia Milano, is experiencing a peculiar situation in which he has ended up because of what he has shown this season.

On Sunday, responding to fans about his future, the former Brindisi player broke off the doubts and explained that staying in Friuli does not depend on him.

Calzavara’s story with the bianconeri jersey has been from the beginning that of a bet won. Raised in the youth sector of Pallacanestro Varese, the 2001-class point guard had built his reputation in the lower categories, putting himself in the spotlight in Serie B with figures of 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists, before climbing the categories through experiences in Mantova, Monferrato and finally Brindisi, which in the 2024-25 season represented the ultimate stepping stone to Serie A. On the stage of the top series, he quickly imposed himself as one of the staples of coach Adriano Vertemati’s rotations, with his best season performance in the league coming right on Olimpia Milano’s parquet, where on January 4 he put up 17 points.

A EA7 Milano’s interest in him is concrete but, at least for now, limited to a future perspective: according to what has emerged in recent weeks, the meneghini would also have considered the hypothesis of putting him under contract, leaving him on loan in Friuli for a year. A prospect that the Udinese club had already firmly rejected in April, intervening with an official note to deny any hypothesis of transfer and reiterate that the player is fully part of its technical programs. In the same vein was his agent, Riccardo Sbezzi, who told Messaggero Veneto, “Andrea is comfortable in Udine and remains where he is.” Words that today sound less definitive, however, in the light of the statements of Calzavara himself, on which there would also be the eyes of Virtus Bologna.

On the national team front, meanwhile, coach Luca Banchi has permanently included him in the Italian squad: already summoned in the first gathering in October 2025, Calzavara was also called in February for the two 2027 World Cup qualifying matches against Great Britain, played in Newcastle and Livorno. An accolade that has further raised his market value and makes Udine’s handling of his contract situation even more delicate.
