Nicola Colombo has died, Monza mourns for its former president

Nicola Colombo, former president of Monza and a decisive figure in the club’s recent history, died today at the age of 57, as recalled by the red and white club itself in a note. He was the son of Felice, former president of AC Milan.
A businessman from Brianza, he bought A.C. Monza Brianza at bankruptcy auction on July 2, 2015, creating S.S.D. Monza 1912 and bringing the club back to the professional ranks. Under his presidency, the “biancorossi” won the B round of Serie D in the 2016-2017 championship with 80 points, winning the tricolor championship of the category and returning to the Lega Pro two years after bankruptcy.
His intervention was decisive in allowing Monza to continue its more than 100-year history at the most difficult time. On Sept. 28, 2018, he sold the company to Fininvest, paving the way for a new phase that culminated with the historic promotion to Serie A.
In his memory, a moment of commemoration will be dedicated in the pre-match of today’s match against Empoli and the Brianza team will take the field with mourning on their arms.
