Tchouameni-Valverde brawl, hefty penalty leaves everyone stunned

A half-million-euro fine for both players: this is the verdict of Real Madrid after the internal investigation into the brawl between Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde, which shook the Blancos’ locker room in the truest sense of the word and even landed the Uruguayan footballer in the hospital with a head injury. The club has confirmed through its official channels the measure, which therefore equates the two contenders, who have among other things publicly apologized for what happened.
“Real Madrid,” reads the note published Friday evening, “informs that, following the facts that led yesterday to the opening of disciplinary proceedings against our players Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, both players appeared today before the disciplinary contact.
“During the meeting, the players expressed their full repentance for what had happened and apologized to each other,” Real’s statement continued. They also apologized to the club, teammates, technical staff and fans, making themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deemed appropriate.
At the end of the note, the confirmation of the very heavy sanction: “In light of these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thus concluding the relevant internal proceedings.”
