Alexander Blockx was forced to withdraw from Roland Garros and forfeit his second-round match at the Paris Slam against Alex De Minaur. The young Belgian tennis player, who is experiencing one of the brightest moments of his career (he had reached the semifinals in the recent tournament in Madrid), had to stop after a training injury sustained under special circumstances.

According to rumors circulated by the player’s own staff on social media, it all happened during a service-response exercise near the end of training with Brazilian Joao Fonseca: Blockx stepped on a tarpaulin with his right foot and twisted his ankle, immediately feeling very bad.

Court-side tarpaulins, which are used to cover the court immediately in case of rain, have often come under the tennis players’ crosshairs because they had also caused injuries in the past. Many players have complained about the danger posed by the covers, and it is possible that this incident will lead to some changes on the part of the organization.

The tests Blockx underwent, who limped off the court, showed nothing serious in any case: the player could be back on the court as early as two weeks from now, at the start of the grass season.
