Although Jannik Sinner was eliminated, Italy continues to hope for a breakthrough at Roland Garros: in fact, the adventure of Flavio Cobolli continues, who on the Court Philippe-Chatrier beat Learner Tien in three sets, thus flying to the round of 16 of the Paris Slam. 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 was the score in favor of the Roman, who disposed of the file in just under two hours of play. On the sidelines of the match, at the microphones of Eurosport, Cobolli also mentioned Sinner himself and Lorenzo Musetti, the latter of whom was forced to forfeit before the tournament due to injury.

“In any case, I don’t want to put pressures on myself that I don’t feel: I’m doing my path, I want to make me happy, as well as all the people who are close to me. I don’t experience these goals as a burden, on the contrary: for me it’s a pride to keep growing. Have I heard from them? Lorenzo has, these days, Jannik hasn’t but I wish them the best of luck. What they are both doing is unbelievable.”

Today’s was Cobolli’s first win on a center court of a Grand Slam tournament: “It’s an incredible feeling, I didn’t expect to close in three sets against an opponent of this level: maybe he was a little tired, but I’m really happy. A first time like that is not forgotten: to tell the truth, I was more tense for the post‑match interview than for the match itself, however, that went well too,” he concluded, smiling.

A class of 2002, born in Florence but raised in Subiaco, near Rome, Flavio Cobolli has already captured his best result at Roland Garros, since he had not made it past the third round until 2025. Should he also overcome the next hurdle, he would equal his best result in a Slam, reaching the quarterfinals, a goal he achieved at Wimbledon in the 2025 edition.
