Kimi Antonelli before another crossroads: an exclusive club awaits him

With the victory conquered with authority on the Monte Carlo circuit, Kimi Antonelli achieved his fifth Formula 1 success, which allowed him to join, in terms of number of Grand Prix won, Giuseppe Farina, Clay Regazzoni, John Watson, Michele Alboreto and Keke Rosberg. The goal, not even too hidden, is to extend the series again next Sunday in Montmeló, on a completely different track in which Mercedes aims to confirm the good things seen so far.

With another success, Antonelli would join a similarly exclusive group, which includes two world champions: with six successes in a Formula 1 Gp there are in fact John Surtees, champion in 1964 (the Briton was among other things the only F1 champion to also win the rainbow crown on motorcycles, winning no less than three World Championships in the 350 class and four in the 500), and Jochen Rindt, unfortunate winner of the 1970 World Championship, a championship that he could unfortunately not celebrate because of the fatal accident at Monza.

At six, then, there is a legend who made entire generations fall in love with F1: Gilles Villeneuve, who precisely in Spain (albeit at Jarama) won for the last time, in 1981. With the same number of successes there are also Tony Brooks, Jacques Laffite, Riccardo Patrese, Ralf Schumacher and two drivers still on the grid: the Mexican Sergio Perez and Antonelli’s teammate, George Russell.

Before that, of course, there is a Gp to be run in Catalonia: last year Antonelli started in sixth position but was decidedly unlucky in the race: in fact, he was forced to retire during the fifty-fourth lap due to an oil pressure problem. The race was won on that occasion by Oscar Piastri in a McLaren, ahead of teammate Lando Norris and Ferrarista Charles Leclerc.
