The former Reggina striker is in the running for the Catanzaro head coaching position

With the possibility of Daniele Galloppa now off the table—as he is close to joining Modena after reaching an agreement with the club— Catanzaro, which parted ways with Alberto Aquilani after narrowly missing out on Serie A, has returned to seriously evaluating Davide Possanzini for the coaching position. The former Reggina forward, however, is in high demand and is also attracting interest from other clubs.
In addition to the Calabrian club, in fact, Possanzini is being closely monitored by Cremonese, which could turn to him should it decide not to continue with Marco Giampaolo, who is still under contract for another season. Cesena and Sampdoria are also being mentioned in connection with Possanzini.
The Loreto-born coach made an excellent impression during his time at Mantova, where he demonstrated his ability to work with non-star-studded squads and develop young players. Qualities that would be useful to a Catanzaro side looking to rebuild after an exciting season, which culminated in the Serie B playoff final against Monza. The Calabrians, led by Aquilani, came very close to their promotion dream: after eliminating Palermo in the semifinals with a decisive 3-0 win in the first leg at Ceravolo, they entered the final with high hopes, only to fall to the Brianza side, who defended the two-goal lead they had secured in the first leg.
In the second leg of the final at the U-Power Stadium, Catanzaro came close to pulling off a stunning comeback, rallying to a 2-0 lead in the second half with goals from Fellipe Jack and Frosinini, but the third goal never came, and Monza returned to Serie A by virtue of their higher league standing. A bitter ending for the Giallorossi fans, who had dreamed of a return to the top flight after a 43-year absence.
