Olimpia Milano: Diop and Mannion were outstanding, but their future lies elsewhere

Game 1 of the 2026 LBA Finals was won decisively by Olimpia. At the Forum, the red-and-whites prevailed with a decisive 100-80 victory. Of the 100 points scored by Coach Poeta’s team, a full 55 came off the bench.
In particular, Diop and Mannion shone, scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively. Two unexpected stars, also praised by Coach Poeta, who, in the post-game interview, emphasized how the “second unit”—and specifically the two Azzurri players—were decisive in the run that led to the victory.
Diop and Mannion will almost certainly see significant playing time in the remainder of the finals series against Reyer Venezia. The question is whether or not this will be their last series in the red-and-white jersey.
Until a few weeks ago, their departure at the end of the current season was practically a foregone conclusion. A strong performance in the championship finals could change their future and secure them a new contract with the red-and-white club. The fans seem to be pushing for them to continue playing in the Olimpia jersey.
