After weeks of turmoil following Massimiliano Allegri’s dismissal and the departures of Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada, Milan is preparing to start afresh with a new anchor: Ruben Amorim, the Rossoneri’s coach-designate. With the failed signing of Andoni Iraola and the unsuccessful pursuit of Ralf Rangnick now behind them, the Rossoneri seem to have made their decision: they will entrust the team to the Portuguese coach, formerly of Manchester United.

According to reports, Amorim will sign a three-year contract worth €4 million per year: the coach is said to have accepted all the conditions set by the Rossoneri management. The number one goal is to return to the Champions League, and the Portuguese coach sees the Italian team as an opportunity for a fresh start after his nightmare experience in Manchester.

A former midfielder for Benfica, Braga, and the Portuguese national team, Amorim made his coaching debut with Casa Pia in 2018. After a year at Braga, he spent four years at Sporting Lisbon, making a name for himself on the international stage.

With Sporting, he won two Portuguese league titles and two Portuguese League Cups, promoting a modern, attacking style of play based on pressing and ball possession. His style of play is proactive and direct, focused on attack, and the Rossoneri squad will need a major overhaul to meet the coach’s requirements. Rafael Leão himself, who has struggled in Allegri’s system, might decide to stay with the arrival of his compatriot.

The now highly likely arrival of Amorim has raised eyebrows among several Milan fans, who are particularly concerned about what has happened over the past two years: After joining Manchester United in November 2024, Amorim completely failed in his tenure with the Red Devils, finishing his first season in 15th place and being sacked after 20 matches in his second year.
