Turin Transfer Market: Two Names to Bolster the Defense

One of Torino’s transfer priorities is to strengthen the defense: the club is carefully evaluating several players to bolster Ignazio Abate’s backline, and two options have emerged as frontrunners in recent hours.
The first involves Marash Kumbulla, whom Gianluca Petrachi has scouted in the past. The Albanian center back was signed by Roma in 2020, then sent on loan to Sassuolo before moving, again on a temporary basis, to Spain. Between 2024 and 2025, he played for Espanyol, then moved to Mallorca last summer.
The club decided not to exercise the buyout option (there was a clause of €6 million plus €2 million in bonuses), so Kumbulla will return to Roma. The defender, however, does not fit into Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans and will in all likelihood be packing his bags again.
Torino’s other option is Berat Djimsiti, the experienced Atalanta center-back whose contract is expiring. The Bergamo-based club, obviously in agreement with new coach Maurizio Sarri, has decided not to extend Djimsiti’s contract, so he will be free to leave on a free transfer.
Having come up through the Zurich youth system, the defender was signed by Atalanta in 2016 and, after six months, was loaned out to Avellino. He subsequently played on loan for Benevento and returned to Bergamo in 2018, eventually becoming a mainstay of the Atalanta squad.
