Parma Transfer Market: An Emilian Derby for Daniel Maldini

As for departures, Atalanta has yet to clarify the situation regarding Daniel Maldini, who has returned to Bergamo after his loan stint at Lazio. The talented player, born in 2001, will meet with Maurizio Sarri at the start of training camp—a meeting that is likely to be decisive for his future. Maldini is looking for more playing time, and there’s no shortage of interest: Parma and Sassuolo have already stepped forward, ready to offer him a more central role. A return to Monza, as speculated by some media outlets, seems unlikely. Any potential transfer could take the form of a loan with an obligation to buy, though much will depend on the assessment of the Lazio coach, who is already familiar with the player from having coached him in the past.

On the demand side, Parma’s “Gialloblu” are reportedly driven by the enthusiasm of coach Carlos Cuesta, who has reportedly specifically requested the arrival of the attacking midfielder. Sassuolo’s new coach, Alberto Aquilani, is also said to be in favor of the deal, making the Emilia derby for Maldini a real and complex contest. A loan deal with an obligation to buy upon the fulfillment of certain conditions remains the most likely scenario, but the final say will rest with Sarri, who fielded Maldini as the attacking spearhead in his 4-3-3 formation at Lazio during the second half of last season.

It’s worth noting that the 2001-born player joined Lazio during the winter transfer window as part of an ambitious package of reinforcements secured by the Rome-based club, alongside Kenneth Taylor, Petar Ratkov, and Adrian Przyborek. While wearing the Lazio jersey, Maldini found some consistency, even contributing important goals: a prime example was the goal he scored in the 95th minute of the dramatic 3-3 draw against Udinese, which further brightened a season that had otherwise fallen short of expectations for the Biancocelesti.
