Liam Udom: The Official Announcement Is Here—His First Words

Cantù has confirmed in an official statement the signing of small forward Liam Udom, a move that had been rumored for some time: “Acqua S.Bernardo Pallacanestro Cantù announces the signing of Liam Akunne Michel Udom, born in Bagno a Ripoli (FI) on June 27, 2000. The official announcement of his arrival coincides with a special date: today is, in fact, Liam’s 26th birthday!”
“A shooting guard with great explosiveness, thanks to his height of 199 cm and weight of 85 kg, he combines strong defensive skills with offensive effectiveness, as demonstrated last season by his 11.1-point average, achieved by shooting 47.3% from three-point range—a performance that made him the league’s top three-point shooter during the regular season.”
The player’s comments: “I’m very happy to have been signed by a historic and important club like Cantù. For my part, I’m eager to get to work, because I can’t wait to make my contribution and fight on the court for this club.”
“Liam Udom came up through the youth systems in Florence, Rimini, and Pistoia, and made his senior league debut in the 2018–19 season with Fiorentina Basket in Serie B,” the club’s statement continues. He then moved to Bakery Piacenza, where he stayed for two years, gradually increasing both his playing time and his impact on the team, eventually averaging 8.6 points in his second season, which ended with a victory in the Serie B playoffs. In 2021, he made the move to A2 in Verona, where, thanks to 6.9 points per game, he immediately carved out an important role on the team that earned promotion to the LBA. With the Verona team, he played the season marking their return to the top flight and the two subsequent seasons in the second division, where he became a key player on the roster. In those last two seasons, he averaged 10.3 and 9.2 points, respectively, along with 4.8 and 5.3 rebounds per game. Last summer, he finally transferred to Rieti, where he put together a season averaging 11.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, also recording the highest scoring average and best three-point shooting percentage of his career, as well as—as mentioned—being the league’s top three-point shooter.”
