Cantù is knocking on Trieste’s door for the former Varese and Napoli player

Pallacanestro Cantù is reportedly targeting Markel Brown to bolster its backcourt. According to La Prealpina, the Brianza-based club is closely monitoring the 1992-born player, who is coming off two seasons with Pallacanestro Trieste and has previously played for Varese and Napoli. Last season, Brown averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in Serie A, rising to 12.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in the Basketball Champions League.
The American guard is still under contract with the Trieste-based club for next season, but he has reportedly requested a salary adjustment that the club deems unsustainable within the framework of its new technical project. This situation could pave the way for a move to Cantù.
If the deal goes through, Brown would find himself playing under Frank Vitucci, Pallacanestro Cantù’s new head coach, whose appointment was made official last May. The Venetian coach, born in 1963, signed a two-year contract with the Brianza-based club after leading Scafati to the Serie A2 championship and subsequent promotion to the top flight, also earning the title of Best Coach in Serie A2. For Vitucci, this marks a return to Serie A following his stint in the second division, with the stated goal of building a solid and ambitious program.
Serving as the link between the new head coach and the club is general manager Simone Giofrè, a key figure in the Biancoblù’s player acquisition strategy. The two have already worked together in the past in Varese and Brindisi, where they built a winning era together. Giofrè himself is orchestrating the moves in the transfer market, having already officially announced the signings of Semaj Christon—a point guard born in 1992 whose resume includes an ACB League title won with Baskonia—and center Chad Brown, an American big man coming from Maccabi Ramat Gan.
