Joonas Riismaa and Cantù part ways; the Estonian is ready to return to A2

The Serie A2 club transfer market continues to be active, and among the most interesting names set to compete in Italy’s second-tier basketball league is Joonas Riismaa, an Estonian forward born in 2002 who was trained in Italy. Promoted to Serie A with Cantù at the end of the 2024–2025 season, Riismaa then played on loan at Tortona during the season just concluded, returning to Brianza at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old from Marjamaa, who is reportedly no longer part of the blue-and-white club’s coaching plans, is looking around and is ready to seize opportunities even in A2: Among the interested teams is Dinamo Sassari, which is looking for a player capable of adapting to more than one role on the court—something Riismaa can do, as he plays both guard and small forward.
Unlike what happened last year, Cantù is considering terminating his contract outright, thus paving the way for Riismaa to negotiate freely with the suitors who have set their sights on him. The Estonian is coming off a season in which he averaged 2.3 points in 19 games; he participated in the Coppa Italia, where Tortona lost to Olimpia Milano in the final (on that occasion, he remained on the bench for all forty minutes of play) and took the court in Game 4 of the playoff quarterfinals against Venice, scoring 3 points.
