F1, Toto Wolff gets off the hook on Mick Schumacher
Mercedes team principal exposes himself on Schumi Jr.
The divorce between Mick Schumacher and Haas will make it almost impossible for the young German to participate in the 2023 F1 World Championship as a starter. For Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, however, it does not mean that Schumi jr cannot also make himself useful to a big name as a test driver.
In the press conference dedicated to team principals, on the sidelines of the qualifying day in Abu Dhabi, the Austrian Mercedes executive in fact wanted to give his opinion on Michael’s son, who has been approached at the level of market rumors precisely at the stable in Brackley: “Mick is an intelligent and well-behaved driver,” said Wolff, “he has had great success in the lower categories. I believe he could be a good fit for us, although at the moment we have not talked about contracts nor are we close at the level of negotiations.”
Mick Schumacher, 23, is part of the 2019 ferrari Driver Academy. He won the F2 World Championship in 2020; in the following two years he raced behind the wheel of Haas. Before the Abu Dhabi GP, his best result was sixth place in Austria this year.
