Rome Transfer Market: Gasperini Finds a Top-Tier Alternative at Inter

Among the players Gian Piero Gasperini particularly likes is Carlos Augusto. The Inter winger—whom Cristian Chivu seems intent on using primarily as a wing-back in a three-man defense—is awaiting news about his future. His representatives and Inter’s management are currently discussing a contract extension, and another round of talks between the parties is expected shortly.

In recent hours, the possibility of signing Luis Henrique has also resurfaced for Roma. The Brazilian had already been linked to the Giallorossi in recent months, though that interest never led to actual negotiations. The main obstacle to the deal was the gap between the two clubs’ valuation of the player. Inter is aware of Roma’s interest, but at the moment is reportedly unwilling to consider offers below 30 million euros for the player.

Gasperini values Luis Henrique above all for his tactical versatility: the Brazilian can play both as a winger and as an attacking midfielder, qualities that make him particularly well-suited to the Giallorossi coach’s style of play. So far, the two clubs have reportedly only exchanged preliminary inquiries, but the deal could gain momentum in the coming hours.

For Inter, the issue is closely tied to their transfer needs on the right flank. Chivu himself had already clarified the situation in recent weeks: “We have three wingers now—actually, three and a half, because Carlos could play there. I prefer him as a third man, though. And depending on how we view Luis Henrique—whether on the right or the left—we’re still missing one. The transfer window is still open for a while; we need to be patient and choose wisely.” A transfer of the Brazilian to Roma would only exacerbate Inter’s need to act in the transfer market, after Denzel Dumfries’ departure had already left the Italian champions short-handed on the right flank.

To replace Luis Henrique should he leave, Inter is focusing in particular on Moussa Diaby: the French winger, born in 1999 and owned by Al-Ittihad, has made it known that he has not yet accepted Bayer Leverkusen’s offer, effectively reopening the door to a move to Milan.
