Milan Transfer Market: Talks Are Underway for a Deal with Porto. But Roma Is in the Mix

Santiago Gimenez’s future may lie away from Milan. The Mexican forward, who has never really made an impression with the Rossoneri, has been on the list of potential departures since late May, but until now, no solutions had emerged that would satisfy all parties. In the last few hours, however, Porto is said to have stepped up talks, and the player—who is eager to prove his worth—is reported to have given his consent to a potential transfer to Portugal.

Gimenez, who has also been linked with Lazio in recent weeks, continues to train at Milanello with the goal of making a full recovery from the injury he sustained while playing for the Mexican national team during the World Cup. The tournament did not give him much of a chance to shine: the center forward saw little playing time, and when he did play, he failed to make an impact.

The Porto option could therefore become a real possibility, but it is also tied to another transfer deal. The Portuguese club is, in fact, working on a potential transfer of Rodrigo Mora to Roma. A deal with the Giallorossi would provide Porto with the financial resources needed to make a substantial offer to Milan for Gimenez.

The Rossoneri are open to negotiating the Mexican’s transfer but are asking for a fee between 22 and 25 million euros. This valuation would allow Milan to avoid a capital loss and, possibly, even make a small profit on the books. The negotiations between Roma and Porto for Mora could therefore have a direct impact on Gimenez’s future and facilitate his departure from Milan.
