Naples: Scott McTominay Undergoes Surgery for Arrhythmia—When Will He Return to the Field?

Scott McTominay will undergo surgery to correct a mild, benign arrhythmia and is expected to be available for Napoli again after the upcoming international break. The Scottish midfielder will therefore be forced to miss several important matches, starting with the big game against Inter, and could return to the field in October. Napoli itself announced the situation in a statement published on its official website.

“Following the onset of a mild, benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay will undergo corrective ablation surgery (PFA) in the coming days. The player will be available again after the international break.” The procedure, therefore, aims to correct the arrhythmia through ablation. According to the club’s timeline, he is expected to return to action at the end of the international break.

McTominay will not be available for the match against Inter on Saturday, September 5, at 6:00 p.m., scheduled at San Siro. The midfielder will also miss the Champions League opener against Arsenal, set for Wednesday, September 9, at the Maradona Stadium. His absence will continue into subsequent league matches. McTominay will not be available for the home match against Bologna, scheduled for September 13, nor for the away match against Fiorentina on September 20.

The layoff is also expected to prevent him from answering Scotland’s call-up for their Nations League matches against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia. If his recovery proceeds according to the timeline provided by Napoli, McTominay will be available to the coach starting in October. The first available match is on Sunday, October 11, at 6:30 p.m., when the Azzurri will face Frosinone at the Maradona Stadium.
