Sergio Conceição takes another jab at Milan. He did so in an interview with DAZN while talking about Amorim: “I send him a hug and wish him good luck on this new journey, which is by no means easy, especially given the atmosphere at the club. There’s a lot of pressure: people think they have to win the Champions League and the league title every year.”
He added: “I was at Milan for six months, during which things went… I wouldn’t exactly say great, but we managed to win a Super Cup and reach the Coppa Italia final. Amorim said not long ago that Milan has won two league titles in twenty years, and that’s true. One of those two titles is mine. And then it became clear that the coach wasn’t the only problem. Obviously, I share some of the blame and I don’t want to shirk my responsibilities, but it was evident that Allegri and the front office failed.”
Lazio vs. Milan won’t be just another game for the Rossoneri, who—after a strong start to the season—drew against Juventus in Turin and are eager to get back on the winning track right away to overtake the Biancocelesti, who are currently in first place with a perfect record, and keep pace with Inter, Roma, and Como. The lineup is nearly set, but there is persistent talk of a possible high-profile omission—that of Luka Modric—in part, but not solely, with an eye toward the Europa League, which begins next week.
Amorim certainly appreciates the talent of the former Ballon d’Or winner, but for reasons of age as well as physical condition, there are players better suited to the style of play the Portuguese coach has envisioned for his Milan team. It’s impossible to imagine a player over 40 pressing all over the field in a midfield that, incidentally, consists of four players rather than five like last year. So on Saturday, it could be Jashari’s turn—he’s younger and more dynamic. Otherwise, the lineup should remain unchanged, with Ramos as the lone striker and Pulisic still on the bench, ready at most to come on for a brief spell if needed.
