A surreal finish to the Sassuolo-Juventus match, a game decided by none other than Vasilije Adžić. The Montenegrin midfielder was loaned by Juventus to Sassuolo through June 30, 2027, while his contract remains the property of Juventus. The agreement between the two clubs also includes an option in favor of Sassuolo and a counter-option for Juventus. This arrangement therefore leaves several scenarios open regarding the player’s future. Adžić, in fact, is still under contract with Juventus through June 30, 2029, as reported in the club’s official financial documents.

However, Sassuolo was not the only suitor for the 2006-born player last summer. Cagliari and Genoa had also made moves for the young Montenegrin, with the Sardinian club appearing to be in the lead thanks to the direct interest of coach Fabio Pisacane. In the end, though, it was Sassuolo that came out on top, adding Adžić to its midfield.

Adžićs story with Juventus had been that of a talent who remained on the sidelines despite his crystal-clear qualities. In the previous season, the 2006-born player had logged just 123 minutes in league play—a paltry amount of playing time that hadn’t allowed him to express himself consistently. Yet Spalletti himself had spoken of him in enthusiastic terms: “There are certain qualities I haven’t seen yet. This job is a bit like being a miner—you don’t find certain things on the surface; you have to go looking for them. I haven’t played the kid much, but I see great footwork, great stamina, and a tough build because he can take a hit. I’d like to help him feel a little more at ease when he has the ball at his feet during the game.”

This isn’t the first time Adžić has been the star in the closing moments of a match. It was he who scored the decisive 4-3 goal in last season’s first-leg Derby d’Italia against Inter—a thunderous strike that made it clear to everyone what the young Balkan player was made of. It was a goal that stuck in everyone’s memory, so much so that his name was already being mentioned in February as one of the stars of that dramatic match.
