Roma will be without Evan Ndicka for the match against Torino. News of the Ivorian defender’s illness broke shortly before kickoff against Torino in the fourth matchday of Serie A.

Ndicka was sidelined by a stomach flu and was unable to play. Gian Piero Gasperini was thus forced to change his starting lineup just before the match: Leonardo Balerdi will start in place of Ndicka from the 1st minute, making his first start as a center back.

At a press conference, Gasperini had praised the newest addition: “He did something remarkable at Marseille; he’s no kid. We knew we were bringing in a top-tier player. If we get into the whole hierarchy thing—where if one plays, the other becomes a reserve—it doesn’t work that way. In teams that compete in the Champions League, there are multiple starters.”

Balerdi has already played two matches in the Giallorossi jersey—against Atalanta and in the Champions League against Fenerbahçe—both as a substitute, and he performed well in both.
