It all started with a taunt related to the duel involving the player who scored the equalizer. “Did you find Johnsen, or are you still looking for him?” wrote a Palermo fan. Izzo didn’t let it slide: “You took one shot. You’re as bad as your coach, and it’s a miracle you managed to bring home a point.” Hundreds of counter-replies followed: “With you marking him so tightly, Inzaghi would have scored twice as many goals today.” The defender’s response was just as direct: “He couldn’t be marked because he was always offside.”
The tension escalated further in the hours that followed, all under the same post. The Biancoverde captain, responding to a fan’s comment accusing him of “not being able to stand on his own two feet,” fired back by attacking his opponents’ results: “Try going for Serie A for three years and never making it. You’re as bad as your coach. Last year I scored 4 goals and had 3 assists; in January I was almost in Serie A with Monza, and I even scored on you. You only see what suits you.”
The back-and-forth remains extremely heated, and as of Monday evening, no comments had been removed. The rivalry between Izzo and Palermo fans, incidentally, is already well-known: in fact, the defender has had heated exchanges with some Rosanero supporters in the past. However, it’s the comments about Pippo Inzaghi that are further inflaming tempers: “On the field, you can be opponents, but never rude. An insult directed at the Palermo coach says more about the person who utters it than the one who receives it,” wrote another user.
