Milan: Not Enough—Rabiot Wasn’t Enough Against Sassuolo

Ruben Amorim’s Milan stumbles again, held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo in Reggio Emilia in their Serie A Matchday 6 clash. At Mapei Stadium, the Rossoneri took the lead through Rabiot, but Odenthal quickly equalized, and they could not manage more than a disappointing draw—their third in four games. They now sit on 12 points in the standings, four points behind Inter and Lazio. The Neroverdi sit in tenth place with 8 points.
The first half once again highlighted Milan’s struggles on offense. Ruben Amorim’s team dominated possession but struggled to create scoring chances: it wasn’t until the end of the half that the Rossoneri made their presence felt with a double effort by Gonçalo Ramos—saved by Muric—and then with attempts by Moreira and Pavlovic, with the visiting goalkeeper remaining alert throughout. The first half was thus marked above all by injuries: 15 minutes in, Matteo Gabbia went down, forced to leave on a stretcher due to a muscle issue, and was replaced by De Winter. At the 25-minute mark, Sassuolo’s Leysen also went off, again due to a muscle injury.
In the second half, Amorim brought Modric into the fray, replacing Estupinan. It was back-and-forth action midway through the second half: in the 64th minute, Rabiot broke the deadlock with a thunderous left-footed shot that caught Muric off guard at the near post; Odenthal equalized in the 68th minute following a corner kick taken by Laurienté. 1-1.
Back to square one for Milan; Amorim brings on Cissé and Jashari for Pulisic and Musah: the Rossoneri continue to control the game but fail to threaten the Emilian side. In the 83rd minute, Cissé tests Muric with a curling shot, but the goalkeeper makes the save. Amorim’s final substitution is Hutchinson, but nothing else happens. It’s not enough for Milan, who falter again in Reggio Emilia and must settle for their third draw in their last four matches.
