The former champion doesn’t mince words: “I’m sick of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz”

In recent months, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have experienced various physical issues that have forced them to stay off the court. The Murcia native is suffering from tenosynovitis in his right wrist, affecting the triangular fibrocartilage complex, while the South Tyrolean is nearing the end of his recovery from a knee injury.
Sinner and Alcaraz are the driving force behind world tennis: for years, they’ve been battling for the top spot in the ATP rankings, leaving very little room for others, but recently, due to injuries, things have changed. Jan-Michael Gambill had this to say on the Inside-In Tennis podcast: “I know everyone loves to see them go head-to-head, and I appreciate it too, but honestly, I’m sick of it.”
“I loved seeing Ben Shelton in the US Open final. I loved seeing Frances Tiafoe take on Shelton in the semifinals. I really enjoyed the way the Americans played at the US Open. To me, it’s much more interesting—a million times more interesting—than watching Sinner and Alcaraz face off against each other yet again. Personally, I don’t need that for a while,” said the former world No. 14.
“Maybe the rest of the world needs it, and that’s what everyone’s asking for. I’m a tennis fan, and even if I didn’t see this matchup next year, that would be fine with me,” Jan-Michael Gambill added.
Alexander Zverev wanted to send a message to Jannik Sinner after his latest victory in Shanghai against the Frenchman Halys, whom he narrowly defeated in three sets. “My hiatus in 2022 was different from Sinner’s,” he told Sky. “My injury was sudden: I tore seven ligaments and broke two bones in my right ankle. I knew exactly what I needed to do to recover. It took me seven months to get back on the court—which, by the way, wasn’t that long—and then a year to get my game back.”
