Argentina tops Mexico 2-0 and returns to hopes of qualification
Argentina is still alive: after a shock defeat in the opener against Saudi Arabia, the albiceleste redeemed themselves by beating Mexico 2-0 in the second match of Group C of the World Cup in Qatar.
The most expected man, Leo Messi, and Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez sank the tricolor national team: in the standings, Scaloni’s team is now second with 3 points along with Saudi Arabia. Ahead is Poland, the Argentines’ next opponent, at 4, while Mexico last at 1 is hanging on by a thread.
Argentina confused and struggling in the first half, makes better impression a Mexico tidy and good at counterattacking. In the second half the plot does not change until the 65th minute, when Messi comes up with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box that beats Ochoa and finally shakes up the albiceleste.
After the disadvantage, Mexico was inevitably forced to get off balance, and in the 87th minute came Enzo Fernandez’s double with a splendid right-footed shot that sealed the deal.
