Atalanta can’t seem to shake off its slump: Maurizio Sarri’s team could only manage a 1-1 draw against Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty in their Conference League Matchday 3 fixture. La Dea failed to capitalize on home-field advantage and thus remains in the middle of the standings with 4 points, in 16th place, while Almaty earned its second point.

Boos and discontent filled the New Balance Arena, where the Tuscan coach is facing increasing criticism. Sarri tried to make some changes, but in the first 45 minutes, his team created too few scoring opportunities against a well-organized opponent that closed down all the spaces and was adept at launching counterattacks. In the 31st minute, Pasalic badly squandered a chance to make it 1-0 right in front of the opponent’s goal.

In the second half, the visitors surprisingly took the lead through Gual on a counterattack, and Atalanta struggled to respond. Krstovic came to Dea’s rescue, scoring the 1-1 equalizer in the 83rd minute off a corner kick. But that’s all there is to the current Atalanta team.
